REHABILITATION GRANTS VALUE OF BURSARIES P.A. WELLINGTON, May 28. Reference to the fact that rehabilitation bursafies for ex-servicemen were the most valuable form of assistance given in New Zealand to promote overseas post-graduate study was made at the last meeting of the Rehabilitation Board by the board member in charge of education, Mr B. Barrington. “ Ex-servicemen who are sent overseas on full bursaries,” he said, “are given £328 sterling yearly if married, and £250 if single as a subsistence allowance, and their travelling expenses and fees are paid. This meets the requirements of keen men who are determined to manage even if it may not always permit them to take a full part in all university activities not directly connected with their course of study.” Mr Barrington’s remarks were occasioned by the presentation to the boaid of the latest figures relating to ex-servicemen who had received assistance to further their education through privileges extended by the Rehabilitation Board up to the end of March, 516 ex-servicemen and women had been approved for overseas bursaries. 3221 had been approved for full-time studies in New Zealand and 13,538 had been approved for parttime study As distinct from these forms of assistance, minor miscellaneous grants have also been approved to the number of 2698 for educational purposes.
