WORLD CONVENTION
CHURCHES OF CHRIST FAREWELL TO DOMINION LEADER Principal A. L. Haddon, who is leader of the New Zealand delegation to the third world convention of Churches of Christ in the USA, will leave Dunedin on the first stage of his journey next Monday. With Mr W. Turner, another member of the delegation, Principal Haddon was entertained recently by members of the Church in Dunedin. Speakers included the Mayor, Mr Cameron, the Rev. Principal J. A. Allan, on behalf of the Faculty of Theology of Otago University. The NorthEast Valley church, of which both Mr Turner and Principal Haddon are members, was represented by Messrs W. H. Brown and D. W. Crowley, who referred to the long record of service
of the Principal as a minister who had not only preached his 1500th sermon there recently, but had always taken an inspiring share in the practical work of church-building. Mr A. Botting, of Broad Bay, vice-chair-man of Glen Leith College, the Rev. L. D. C. Groves (National Council of Churches), and Mr E. R. Vickery,also spoke. During the evening vocal solos were rendered by Mesdames J. McNeil, N. Brown, and Avas McFarlane, and a cornet solo was contributed by Mr George : Christie. Mrs -Christie was the accompanist. The world convention will have a registration of 10,000 from churches in 40 different nations. Outstanding ministers, teachers, and public men, including President Truman, Charles P. Taft, and Dr T. Z. Koo, have been assigned .places on the programme to lead the conference in consideration of Christian issues.
Principal Haddon is taking with him films of the Dominion, lent by the New Zealand Government, and he. will lecture to American audiences on New Zealand. He also intends to secure a record of the trip and convention.
