CONDEMNED HOUSES
Sir,—We read in yesterday’s Daily Tirnts of tire houses in Glasgow street being condemned and the tenants having tp quit. We also read in the same paper of the number of people waiting for homes.
Now, sir, I think the time Iras come when a law should be passed compelling owners to repair and do up their tenants homes, so they can live in comfort and happiness. We have only to look around and see the houses that need painting and repairing. I ask the owners: Would they live in suclr. hovels themselves? 1 think when a tenant takes a house and pays rent in accordance to conditions and conveniences, owners should see that those conditions are kept or else make a reduction in the rent till repairs are effected. I can name six houses that were dismantled because tljey had fallen into suclr a bad state—hence six more houses had to be found. I will admit there are cases where children are allowed to damage property, but these are in the minority. I think if our local members of Parliament could have such a law passed compelling owners to repair or else the tenant to live rent free and get the ‘work done themselves, it would be. doing a job worth while and help to give more homes—l am, etc., A Tenant.
