WHEAT CROP SAVED

RAIN IN NEW SOUTH WALES

EXPORT SURPLUS PROBABLE SYDNEY, May 27.

The heavy rains in the wheat areas during the last three days are stated by experts to have been worth millions of pounds. A record wheat crop for New South Wales of about 100.000.000 bushels, compared with 15.000.000 under the drought conditions of last year, is predicted. Six million acres will be under crop, as compared with 5.000,000 acres last * This will give an export surplus which will be of inestimable value on the world’s food front.

Crops which in some areas were on the verge of destruction because of the hot weather are already showing signs of revival. The rain has also been of great value to the pastoral industry, as much of it fell in drought or semi-drought areas.
