HEAVY DAMAGE

GRAND HOTEL FIRE CAUSE NOT ASCERTAINED P.A. INVERCARGILL, May 27. Thousands of pounds’ worth of damage was caused by fire, smoke and water to the Grand Hotel on Monday night, but it will probably be a few days before the figures are available. The insurances on the building and contents total £62,000 building £47,000, contents £15,000— mainly with the State office. The cause of the outbreak is unknown, but an inspection of the electrical wiring showed that it was not at fault.

Reconstruction work will begin when a permit is available. The use of the Federal loiVige bar has been temporarily lost, but otherwise the hotel service is normal.
