Tring has not won a race since June of last year, whan he was successful in the Oamaru Winter Cup. His record this season is seven starts for two fourths. Nicely Placed Court Talk looks nicely placed in the Tahuna Steeples on Saturday. The Prince Warden gelding has had five starts this season for a win, a second and a third. Sterling Lad Heavy going is no trouble to Sterling Lad. and the Inflation gelding may find conditions to his liking before the Wingatui meeting is over. Brackets at Wingatui The following horses will be bracketed at Wingatui:—Trial Stakes, Eton Lad and Special Envoy, All Hurry and Victory Star, Goulash and Phantom Night, Royal Anne and Taradale, Tranbycroft and Vanity King, Gold Medallion and Slick. Divisions in Trial Thirty horses have been accepted for in the Trial Stakes, and the safety number is 29, but now, when provision is made for a race to be divided it must be run in divisions unless 25 per cent, of the safety number drop out. Divisions have been provided for as follows:—First division: Artful Maid, Black Jack, Jaunty, Mannox, Perusha, Recharge, Special Envoy Sunstorm, White Face, Arctotis. Victory Star, Goulash, Royal Anne, Tranbycroft, Gold Medallion. Second division; Ara Chief, Dark Warrior. Lady Lancer, Palmona, Plain Pal, Regatta, Eton Lad, Wee Mac Cherie, Bright News, All Hurry, Phantom Night, Taradale, Vanity King. Slick. Trial Stakes Candidate Regatta, a candidate for the Trial Stakes on Saturday, has been started 15 times this season and filled a place on nine occasions. His most recent race was at the Southland meeting last month, when he finished fourth to Sandy’s Pride, Kasimov and Perusha in the Novice Handicap. A six-year-old mare by Phaleron Bay, she is from Competition, by Polazel from Rivalry, by Antagonist from Equipment, by Martian from To-morrow, by Bill o’ Portland, and she is trained by J. R. Cochrane.

Brilliant Speed Lorna Leigh confirmed her first day’s impression when she won again at Washdyke on Saturday, as she disposed of her opponents in summary fashion. She looks good, and she should have no difficulty in continuing to more success in open company, with her brilliant speed, backed by breeding which suggests stamina. Trial as Jumper Matador, who filled second place in the South Canterbury Handicap, is a recent addition to C. G. Humphries's stable and this was his first appearance in the South Island. His earlier form this season had been poor, but it looks as if the change of quarters would prove beneficial. He is to be tried as a jumper. Matador is owned by Mr G. , Lang, who has Gulf Stream in the same stable at Riccarton.

“ Darkle ” Robinsop Dead The late W. J. Robinson, whose death is reported from Ashburton, had been training there for a few years, commencing with Mister John. Among the horses he handled this season was Flying Hawk. In his younger days, " Darkie ” Robinson was the best-known jockey in Southland, being first horseman for P. T. Hogan’s stable in the days of Golden King, Rorke’s Drift and other horses.
