Thirty BCOF troops were detained by the Provost Marshall following a brawl outside the British Union Jack Club in Tokio during which several shots were fired. The incident took place last evening, when an Australian sailor off the cruiser Hobart removed a small toy dog from a Japanese vendor’s stall and took it into the club When a Japanese policeman requested its return the sailor punched his face and a general free-for-ai: started, and the military police were called in. While the troops were being arrested they called on the sympathy of a huge Allied and Japanese crowd, necessitating the military police firing several shots into the air. The American police rushed to the assistance and cordoned off an area enabling the British police to remove the prisoners.
