POWER SHORTAGE

SOUTH ISLAND POSITION In his report to the meeting of the Waitaki Electric Power Board yesterday morning, the engineer, Mr N. A Davidsen, stated that, according to reports, the State Hydro-electric Department was preparing regulations giving power to South Island suoply authorities to restrict load. When tne regulations were gazetted they would empower supply authorities to enforce the regulations in their districts as they thought fit. The authorities would be given wide discretionary powers in the exercise of the regulations, and no doubt they would be given an over-riding instruction to reduce load by a certain percentage. The chairman said instructions might come at anv day to restrict the load, and ; it was decided that if instructions came to hand a special meeting of the board would be called to deal with the matter.
