ABANDONMENT BY BRITAIN Rec. 10 p.m. LONDON, Apl. 15. The Government is preparing to hand back Britain’s overseas shopping to private enterprise, says the Daily Mail. The Under-secretary for Food,
Dr Edith Summerskill. gave the strongest official hint of this step when she said there would be no more bulk purchases of tea from India and Ceylon. The Daily Mail adds that the Government is consulting merchants and brokers who handled pre-war imports. Almost the only trade which has not had Government feelers for reversion to private buying is cotton.
