LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
The opening meeting of the Milton branch of the League of Mothers was held on Friday last. The president welcomed a large number of members and friends, including visitors from Mornington. The speaker was Mr N. Grant, rector of the High School, who spoke about his experiences with school chndren over a number of years. Items were given by Miss Doreen Smith and a choir of girls from Ihe Tokomairiro District High School. Members of the Kaikorai branch of the League of Mothers met on Tuesday last, Mrs Sonntag presiding. In her address. Ihe president emphasised the necessity for making further contributions to relieve the distress and suffering in Great Britain. An account of life in the Solomon Islands Methodist Mission was given by Mrs Eaton, of St. Clair. She described the domestic arrangements of the islanders and gave details of their daily work and dress. Mrs Eaton brought many interesting curios to illustrate her address. Songs were given by Mrs McCrostie, with Mrs Edmiston as accompanist. The opening meeting of the Roslyn branch of the League of Mothers was presided over by Mrs G. Raven. The speaker was Mrs Chandler, of the Salvation Army, who based her address on the description of a good wife and mother as contained in Proverbs, chapter 31. Two songs were given by Mrs Haig.
