COALITION GOVERNMENT
FORMATION IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA CALL TO LIBERAL LEADER Rec. 8 p.m. PERTH, Mar. 20. The Lieutenant-Governor of Western Australia, Sir James Mitchell, will ask the Leader of the Parliamentary Liberal Party, Mr Duncan Ross McLarty, to form a new Government. As the result of last Saturday’s election, the Liberal Party and Country Democratic League together hold 25 seats in the Legislative Assembly of 50, as against 23 held by Labour. The composite Government will probably invite one of the two Independents to accept the Speakership in order to preserve a safe majority. The State Labour Government is the first wartime regime in Australia to lose office. Service votes are still outstanding and the final result may not be known for 10 days. The new Premier, who is 55, has been a member of the Legislative Assembly since 1930, mostly unopposed. He is a son of a late member and he won the Military Medal in the First World War.
