Ministerial The postmaster-general, Mr F. Hackett, arrived in Dynedin. yesterday afternoon. Mr Hackett, who is making a tour of post , offices in the South Island, will leave tomorrow for Gore. He will.. be engaged at the Ministerial rooms at the Post Office this morning, and at 10.30 will be entertained by the Mayor, Mr Camion, at tea He will then meet personally members of the staff at the Chief Post Office, and will receive deputations. Commander M. Slayton, naval attache to the United States Legation in Wellington, is at present in Dunedin in connection with the departure of the U.S.S. Merrick from Port Chalmers to-day. He arrived on Wednesday night, and will leave for the north by car to-day, At the monthly meeting of the Otago executive of the Real Estate Institute yesterday congratulations were extended to Mr J. A. Macdonald on his recent appointment as chairman of the Otago branch ol the New Zealand Institute of Valuers. • Mr William C. How, a' London director of the New Zealand Shipping Company and the Federal Steam Navigation Company, who has been on a short visit to Dunedin, left yesterday morning by car for Christchurch, Picton, and Wellington. Members of the Otago Harbour Board stood in silence at a meeting last night as a mark of respect, to the memory of the late Mr James Wallace. The. chairman, Mr W. R. Clarke, paid a tribute to the work Mr Wallace had done for education, A tribute to the work Mr Wallace had done for education was also paid at the monthly meeting of the Otago High Schools Board yesterday by the chairman, Mr W. R. Brugh. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was carried in silence. Reference was made to Mr Wallace's death at the quarterly meeting of the School Committees’ Association of Otago last night, and delegates stood in silence as a mark of respect. Passengers' who left by air for the north yesterday were:—Mr Heath, for Christchurch; Miss J. Bowie, Miss W. Benton, Miss D. Cameron, Mr and Mrs N. Tregurtha, Mr H. W. English, Mrs P. Cassin, Mrs Z. McElrea, for Wellington; Mr and Mrs C. P. Leaity, Mr E. A. Astiey, Mrs M. Coughlan, and Mrs M. Mackintosh, for Auckland. Those who arrived from the north were:—Mrs A. W. Macandrew, Mrs M. Houston, Mr R. C. Burgess, Mr H. Speight; Mr R. C. Greenslade, Mi and Mrs C. Bell, Mr E. D. Laycoch, Mr T. M. Pacey, Mr Duggen, Sir Charles Hercus, Mr Cole, and Father Ainsworth. Passengers for the south were: Mr K A. Robinson and Mr A. H. Turner.
