MANIOTOTO COMPETITIONS A match to decide the Maniototo County lawn tennis champions in the A Grade competition was played at Patearoa on Saturday between Patearoa and Omakau, the winners of the South and North End sections respectively. Omakau proved too strong for the southern team, and won the match by a margin of 6 sets. The scores were as follows (Omakau names first):— Men’s Singles: Haig 9. Patchett 5; Harvey 9, Robertson 1; Wilson 9, McSkimming 2; Breen 9, Carr 1. Women’s Singles: Miss Harvey 7, Mrs Patchett 3; Mrs Harvey 4, Miss D. Keegan 7; Miss Rhodes 4, Miss N. Keegan 7; Miss Stevenson 0, Mrs Blakely 7. Men’s Doubles: Haig and Harvey 9, Patchett and Robertson 4; Wilson and Breen 9, McSkimming and Carr 6. Women’s Doubles: Miss C. and Mrs Harvey 7, Mesdames Patchett and Blakely 1; Misses Rhodes and Stevenson 0, Misses D. and N. Keegan 7. Mixed Doubles: Haig and Miss Harvey 9, Patchett and Mrs Patchett 1; Harvey and Mrs Harvey 9. Robertson and Miss D. Keegan 1; Wilson and Miss Rhodes 9, McSkimming and Mrs Blakley 0; Breen and Miss Stevenson 5, Carr and Miss N. Keegan 9. Totals: Omakau 11 sets (108 games), Patearoa 5 sets (62 games). The B Gjade competition was continued on Saturday, when Ranfurly played Hyde for the David Jones Challenge Cup. Hyde, the challengers, were successful in winning the match and also the cup by 9 sets (114 games) to 7 sets (87 games). In the other matches Kyeburn 10 sets (105 games) beat Kqkonga 6 sets (96 games). On Saturday the Maniototo Association will fulfil another county engagement, when their A Grade representative team will play the Eastern Districts County team at Ranfurly.
