R.S.A. AND RATIONING
Sir, —We note the report that the R.S.A. is suggesting increased rationing in New Zealand so that we can send more to Britain. This is quite a generous spirit, but does not common sense first urge the country to deal properly with the waterfront problem instead of sitting back while thousands of tins of foodstuffs and tons of food are piling up because the watersiders won't work?
What is the good of self-denial and rationing when we cannot get the stuff shipped? What we' really want in this country is more work more production, and decent watersiders. What is more, rationing is a bit of a farce. If you go out inio the country you find cream and butter enough for the whole country, but there are so many restrictions and so many inspectors popping in here and there that good food has to go to waste or be kept out of sight because of the law. New Zealand seems to be Agoing into a moral decline under the Labour Government. In the world thousands of people have not enough to eat, but we enjoy the 40-hour week and knock off work every time there is an excuse. The R.S.A. wants to open its eyes and look the facts in tire face.—l am, etc., March 18. Not Impressed.
