CONTINGENT FOR WORLD JAMBOREE

It was to-day announced by the Dominion headquarters of the Boy Scouts’ Association that subject to final authority being obtained from the British Shipping Authorities provisional reservations have been made for up to 250 New Zealand Scouts to leave New Zealand by the Rangitata, from Welington on May 3, en .route to the 6th World Jamboree, which is to take place in France in Ausust next.

The present provisional time-table for the New Zealand Scouts, provides for the contingent to arrive in the United Kingdom on June 9, and the following two months will be spent in sight-seeing and camping in Great Britain. On August 6, or thereabouts, the New Zealand Contingent will journey to France, and will remain at the Jamboree until Augu\t 20. There will then be a further month in Europe before the return journey to New Zealand commences, and part of this may be spent in France camping with French Scouts, or as guests in their homes.

The New Zealand Contingent will include Sea Scouts, Rover Scouts, Scout officers and - Scout commissioners in addition to Scouts. Special arrangements are being made with the education authorities so that the schooling of the boys will not be interrupted by the voyage, and school hours, or their equivalent, will be observed on board ship. The New Zealand Contingent is to be led by Sir Joseph Ward, Bt., County Commissioner for Boy Scouts for the County of Canterbury, and the deputy leader is' to be Mr F. L. McKenzie, assistant County Commissioner for Scouts for the Hutt Valley and Bays Scout County.
