MINOR “RUSH”

EXACT LOCATION SECRET P.A. , AUCKLAND. Jan. 22. By noon to-day a number of men left Coromandel with picks and shovels with a view to staking claims. It is believed some had taken out miners’ rights but others omitted to do so in the excitement. At Thames the find was the leading topic of conversation, but no miners’ rights had been taken out there up to noon to-day, except that of Mr McLean who reported the discovery of the quartz reef. The exact location of the reported “ strike ” is being kept a close secret by Mr McLean. A Whitianga storekeper described a sample of gold shown him by Mr McLean as a good one. Mr McLean, who is a full-blooded Maori, was described by the storekeeper as very trustworthy and not prone to exaggeration. The storekeeper considered that the discovery could be regarded as definite.
