ARROWTOWN

THE WEATHER After a week of suny weather, intermittent showers fell on Sunday, and there was some snow on the hills. Temperatures were cool. OBITUARY After a short illness, the death occurred at Cromwell Hospital on Thursday of Mr William George Anderson, youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs W. H. Anderson, of Arrowtown. He was born at Macetown in 1889 and received his education there. In 1910 Mr Anderson went to Tasmania and took up mining, eventually going to the Mount Lyell mines on the west coast of Tasmania, where, in 1916, he married Miss Linda Lamp. Returning to New Zealand in 1924, he again took up mining at Macetown and Arrowtown. Mr Anderson was a keen bowler .and a member of the Arrow Borough Conncil. He is survived by his widow, two daughters and one son. KITCHEN AFTERNOON At the home of Mrs J- M. Hansen, superintendent of the Arrowtown brandy of St. John Nursing Division, the members of the division met to honour a foundation member, Miss M. Elliot, who Is shortly to be married. Mrs Hansen spoke of the good work Miss Elliott had done for the division and, in handing over a number of many useful gifts, conveyed best wishes for her future happiness. Miss Elliot replied. DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB The final shoot for Speight’s Cup was held on Saturday, and Rifleman L. Ogg was the winner of the trophy. The scores were: L. Ogg, 300yds 30, 600yds 30, hep. 6 —total 65; J. G. Allan, 30, 31. 8—64; W R. Shaw, 31, 30. 3—64; C. Allan, 27, 34, 4 62J; M. Elliot, 25, 27, 8—60; J. G. Allan, 25, 18, 10—53; V. Hansen, 29, 26. 15— 651.
