QUEEN CARNIVAL

CORONATION AT ARROW CARNIVAL GYMKHANA (P.A.) ARROWTOWN, Jan. 4. At an Impressive ceremony held in the Athenaeum Hall, Arrowtown, on Thursday, Miss Anne McEntyre (Services) was crowned Queen of the Carnival, which has been held over the past three months. After a trumpet call from the heralds (lan Taylor and Ellis Adams) the grand march, led by a guard of honour resplendent in blue and scarlet uniforms (Messrs Henderson, Sanders, Nairn, Hamilton, Shaw, Snell) commenced. There followed in stately succession pages (Lorraine Erridge and Audery Saunders). Standard Bearer (L. Oakes), Country Queen (Miss Dorothy Little), flower girls (Allison Shaw and Ann Ogilvie), ladies in waiting (Mesdames Little and Mackie), pages (Daphne Fletcher and Heather Summers), Standard Bearer (J. Wilcox), Town Queen( Miss Joy Wilcox), flower girls (Cdlleen Cowie and June Adams), ladies in waiting (Mrs T. Shaw and Miss D. Thompson), scroll bearer (Dorothy Wilcox), treasury bearer (Gwen Thompson), crown bearer (Pearl Thompson), flower girls (Shirley Scott and Winsome Summers), Lord Chancellor (Mr G. Thompson), two pages (Frances Dennison and Merle Taylor), standard bearer (Vernon Hansen), Services Queen (Miss Anne McEntyre), flower girl (Claire Wahrlick and Lois Ogilvie), ladies in waiting (Misses Hanton and Elliot), and the Lord High Chancellor (Mr E. B. Taylor). The Town and Country princesses, were presented to the Queen and bouquets were given to each. After the ceremony a mock investiture in which the Mayor (Mr E L. Thompson), Captain J. W. Reed, Mr J R. Cowie, Mr M. Jenkins, and Mr W. H. Thompson were honoured. The producer and stage decorator, Mr E B. Taylor, and the wardrobe mistress, Mrs A. C. Erridge, with the assistance of Mrs J. W. Henderson, did excellent work. A ball was held after the ceremony, at which McNamara's orchestra supplied the music and Messrs W. H. Nairn and A. M Ritchie were the M.C.’s. Prior to the supper adjournment the Mayor thanked all those who were responsible for the display arranged for the evening, and also those who with their untiring efforts had made the carnival a success. Guests by invitation were the Mayor and Mayoress of Dunedn, Mr and Mrs Cameron, the Mayor and Mayoress of Queenstown, Dr and Mrs W. A. Anderson, the town clerk of Dunedin, Mr R. A.
