CONGESTED PORT

POSITION AT AUCKLAND (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 5. About 2000 men will be called to work overtime on vessels on the Auckland waterfront to-morrow night, but whether any work will be undertaken or not remains to be seen. If not, it is expected that the Government will enforce the conditions of its ultimatum and that the authorities and powers of the Waterfront Industry Commission will be suspended. There are at present 14 overseas ships in port, including three which arc anchored in the stream waiting for berths. This represents a total of 117,595 tons of shipping. A further eight large intercolonial end : coastal steamers brings the aggregate tonnage in the harbour to 144,176. Overtime will be required to work the majority of these, ships.
