NEW WAITEMATA
MAIDEN VOYAGE ENDS (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Jan 2. After an uneventful trip from Vancouver, the Union Company’s vessel Waitemata arrived at Auckland to-day on its maiden voyage. Commanded by Captain W. Whitefield, formerly of Auckland, the ship left Vancouver on December 5. Originally designed as a repair vessel for the Royal Navy, the Waitemata was built at Vancouver as one of a number of Canadian Victory ships.
