The New Zealand quarter and half-mile champion, D. M. Harris, does not confine his sporting activities to running. He is much better than an average rifle shot, and recently won the Miniature Rifle Shooting Championship at the Waiouru Military Camp and was narrowly beaten for the Grand Aggregate. As part of his winter training Harris indulged in long country walks, invariably carrying a rifle. As a result of his ability to shoot, the messes at Waiouru have been kept well supplied with rabbits and hares.
