Eased Up It looked as though the jockey on Brigg Fair eased up just short of the post, apparently thinking he had the race won, and Patmos’s brilliant run landed her a narrow winner. Had Every Chance Tikakoura had every chance in the High-weight Handicap at Oamaru, but was done with a long way from home. Fortunately for her supporters he was bracketed with Pandemonium, who finished second. Stopped in Straight 1 Double Cross looked certain to finish in a place in the Waikouaiti Cup when he turned into the straight to ird - He did not finish on and was stopping over the last bit. Responded Gamely Lord Elgin responded very gamely to vigorous riding to get up and win toe Waikouaiti Cup, J. McFarlane timing his finishing run perfectly. He has now ridden the winners of the New Zealand Cup> the Dunedin Cup, and the Waikouaiti Cup. Vincent Meeting Except for the Moran Memorial Handh cap, the nominations .for the Vincent meeting are very satisfactory. Auckland Cup Winner Svlis. who scored narrowly, but courageously, in the Auckland Cup at very long odds, is by Baffles from San d‘Driit, and is a five-year-old brown gelding trained by his owners, Messrs D. W. and J. H. Gaddes at Knvitahi. Sylis did not start as a juvenile, and was once first and once second in three starts at three years, winning a maiden race. Like most of toe stock of Baffles, he improved with age, and won twice, was second twice, and third once in 12 starts as a four-year-old. This season he ran six times before winning toe Auckland Cup, running two firsts and two seconds. He finished strongly to win the Opotiki Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, at Tauranga, responding gamely when toe pressure was applied.
