RISING TEMPERATURES Forecast for Otago.—The following official weather forecast for O'.ago, covering the ensuing 24 hours, was issued at's p.m. ydsterday by the Meteorological Office in Wellington:— Situation.—A deep depression is south-east of the Chatham Islands, while an anti-cyclone in the Northern Tasman Sea is advancing on to New Zealand. Forecast to 5 p.m. To-day.—Winds tending westerly and later northwesterly, mainly moderate; weather fair with rising temperatures. Further Outlook.—Cloudy, but warmer. Weather in Dunedin.—Snow and sleet fell intermittently in Dunedin yesterday, and temperatures were very cold, but there was an improvement towards evening. The snow did not gain a hold on the lower ground, ,but the surrounding tops retained a thin coat. The sun made brief appearances, the total sunshine recorded being 3 hours 12 minutes. The highest temperature during the day was only 40.2 degrees, the minimum was 30.3, and, with 2.8 degrees of frost, the lowest registered at grass level, was 27.5 degrees. Up to 9.30 a.m., 0.63 inches of rain had fallen. In the morning thgre was a light wind from the south-west, which veered to the west in the afternoon. The barometer remained steady, the reading at midnight being 29.95 inches (1014 millibars)
