WINTRY CONDITIONS

UNSEASONABLE WEATHER Cold southerly winds prevailed throughout North Otago on Sunday and yesterday. An intense hailstorm raged in Oamsru for a short period on Sunday afternoon, but the hail, which had the appearance more of snow than of ice, did little damage to gardens and soon disappeared. Light snow powdered the town'early yesterday morning, but quickly melted. Mr F. Russell reports that in the 24 nours up to 9.30 a.m. Yesterday a total of 11 points, comprised mainly of snow and hail, was recorded. The country districts appear to have missed both the hail and snow, and there are no reports of stock losses.
