CHAMPIONSHIP IN BRITAIN NEW ZEALANDER ELIMINATED (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON. Oct. 3. In the fourth round of the women's golf championship at Houstanton, n Frenchwoman. Viscountess de St. Sauveur formerly Mademoiselle Lilly Vagliano. beat the New Zealander, Miss Josephine Duncan, by 2 and I. The viscountess won the last girls' championship in England before the war. Miss Duncan seemed likely_ io win when she won three of the first six holes. The Frenchwoman squared the match at the twelfth and led for the first time at the fourteenth. She reached the seventeenth green with two fine woods for the match. In the third round of the championship Miss J. Duncan, of Wanganui, beat Miss M. Fyshe 3 and 2. In the first round she beat Mrs W. P. Scott, of Formbv, 2 and 1, and in the second round Miss Chrislian-Jones 3 and 2. Another New Zealander, Mrs R. G. T Lewis, of Hutt. had a bye in the first round, and was beaten in the second round by Miss J. Jackson, of Island Halahide. one down. The former champions, Mrs A. C. Critcblcy. who won the title in 1930. and Miss Jessie Anderson, who won in 1937. reached the third round only after very close games. Mrs Critchley was formerly Miss Diana Fishwick.
