POTATO PRICES

NO INCREASE TO GROWERS (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Oct. 3. “ It has been decided that no increase in the, contract rate for the growing crop of potatoes can be approved for the current season, because any price adjustments made now would not affect the acreage sown," said the Minister of Marketing, Mr Roberts, to-day. " It also appears that the present contract prices to potato growers are not out of line with prices of other farm crops,” he added, " but the whole question of potato costs and prices in relation to the acreage needed for domestic requirements will be reviewed about March, 1947 This will enable an early price announcement to be made for the following season.- It is hoped about 21,000 acres in potatoes will be grown this sason, which would adequately meet domestic requirements.”
