ANDERSON’S BAY
HOUSEHOLDERS’ ASSOCIATION At the annual meeting of the Anderson’s Bay Ratepayers and Householders’ Association, held in the Cameron Hall, Mr R. A. Mitchell presided over a small attendance of members. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, referred to the excellent year the associatibn had experienced. The membership had grown to a total of 541. The handbook published early in the year had been a financial success, and had proved very popular with the householders.
Mr Mitchell then detailed the improvements which had been 'carried out during the> year. These related mainly to the lighting of the tram terminus, the tram service, and the Shiel Hill bus service, the provision of a telephone call box at the corner of Every street and Highcliff road, and the beautifying of the entrance to the cemetery and the area surrounding the crematorium. Negotiations were in progress, he said, for the building of a Post Office at Anderson’s Bay, and also for the procuring of a site for a hall. A comprehensive programme of improvements was to be carried out in the district this year. Chief among these were street formation and paving in Bayfield road and the widening and piping of the corner of Cranston street and Somerville street. Some 15 other streets in the district were to receive attention, mainly in the form of kerbing, channelling, and paving. The following were elected as the Executive Committee for the ensuing year: Messrs R. A. Mitchell, F. Hanger, G. W. Ferens. R. Bridgman, W. Jeffery, L. Titchcner, R. T. Sando, R. Scott, W. J. Kerr, A. Mitchell, W. J. Mathers, and H. J. Whitehead. Mr J. D. Hanning was reelected auditor. Cr Ireland, chairman of the Works
Committee, and Mr S. G. Scoular, the city engineer, answered a number of questions, and Mr Scoular gave a short account of town-planning as it applied to New Zealand in comparison to other countries. Several matters pertaining to improvements in the district were brought forward by members and discussed. These will be dealt with by the incoming executive. Before closing the meeting, the chairman thanked the representatives of the City Council for their attendance and the members of the outgoing executive for their co-operation during the year. He also expressed thanks to the Dunedin Amenities Society for its co-operation in regard to improvements in the district. At a meeting of the new executive held immediately after the annual meeting Mr Mitchell was re-elected chairman and Mr H. J. Whitehead secretary and treasurer.
