YACHTING CLASSIC
TRANS-TASMAN RACES PREPARATIONS FOR REVIVAL (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 1. The revival of what will again be the classic yacht race of the southern hemisphere is being arranged by the New Zealand and Australian yachting authorities. The Royal Akarana Yacht Club has been in communication with the Royal Hobart Regatta Association, which is willing, to sponsor a transTasman yacht race from Auckland to Hobart to finish in conjunction with the Hobart Regatta on February 4. The Akarana Club in co-operation with the Auckland Amateur Radio Transmitters’ Association will endeavour to equip each competing yacht with a small transmitter capable of' maintaining contact with Australia Tasmania and New Zealand, so that the course of each vessel may be plotted and progress reports made of the race It was stated to-day that should there be larger entries than for the previous trans-Tasman yacht races because of the greater knowledge of navigation among yachtsmen owing to their war training, the Akarana Club intends to arrange a preliminary race from Sydney for Australian boats intending to start in the main, race from Auckland.
