ROAD EXPENDITURE
MORE THAN PETROL TAX (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON. Oct. 1. Not only money raised by the petrol tax was being spent on roads, but 40 per cent, more, said the Minister of Finance, Mr Nash, during consideration of the Estimates in the House of Representatives to-day. He added that it would be unfair to motorists if they had to bear the whole expense cf reading. Mr J. N. Massey (Oppn., Franklin) asked for a return of the total sum spent on main highways, the total spent by the Works Department on roads, and the total paid in subsidies to local bodies for roading.
