BRITISH AIRCRAFT

HIGH QUALITY TYPES FAMOUS AIRMAN’S VISIT (P.A.) AUCKLAND. Oct. 1. New British passenger aircraft which would soon be in use would be the equal of any passenger aircraft in the world, said Mr J. A. Mollison, world-famous British aviator, when he arrived in Auckland to-day by flying boat from Sydney. Britain during the war had concentrated on producing fighting aircraft, but these new types would enable her to compete successfully with other countries on the international air routes. “Within the British Commonwealth there is a great opportunity for the expansion of air services,” Mr Mollison said. “Aircraft manufacturers are producing as many aircraft as possible in every country, with the exception of the United States. There is a great demand for British aircraft in Europe, particularly where the need is urgent with other forms of transport still in a chaotic condition. Air transport is the answer to quick communication.” Mr Mollison will return to Britain ,by the Akaroa, which is expected to sail on October 10. He has logged 8500 hours’ piloting time during his 23 years of flying. He said he had been amazed at the air services that were operating in New Zealand, and from New Zealand to other countries. New Zealand had every reason to be pleased with the developments that had been made.
