RONGOTAI FIRE
INVESTIGATION SOUGHT (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Oct. 1. An inquiry into the causes of the recent fire at Rgngotai with a view to further precautions against a repetition of it was urged by Mr W. J. Poison (Oppn., Stratford) in notice of a question to the Prime Minister, My Fraser, in the House of Representatives to-day. He mentioned the destruction of public* property caused by previous fires at Palmerston North ancl Te Awamutu. . , In a note to his question, Mr Poison said' there was evidence that heating had been discovered in the stored wool at Rongotai some days before the outbreak there and that as wool generated heat gradually and gave ample warning it was unlikely that such a condition would have passed unnoticed. This pointed to some other cause whicr. called for investigation.
