GOVERNMENT’S' POLICY ANNOUNCEMENT BY MINISTER (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 1. The following eight major points ot the Government’s future transport policy were announced by the Minister of Transport, Mr O’Brien, last night:— 1 Construction of modern transport facilities best suited to meet the needs of national production, standards or life, and defence. 2. Development of public roads and passenger services so that adequate cheap travel is available to all for both ; essential and recreational purposes. 3. Provision of road freight services ' so that prompt and cheap collection and delivery services for all classes of goods are. available throughout the : country. . 4 Public ownership and operation oi i road transport services in cases where such is necessary and desirable in the public interest.
