OTOKIA BRIDGE

APPLICATION FOR SUBSIDY COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING A motion that the council should apply to the Public Works Department for a subsidy on a three-for-one basis for the erection of a new bridge at Otokia was adopted at the monthly meeting of the Taleri County Council yesterday. It was also decided to ask for a similar subsidy for the erection of an overhead bridge across the railway and for raising the road from the bridge to the State highway above flood level. The meeting was attended by Crs C. Findlay, who was voted to the chair, J. A Gow, J. 'A. Wither, G. Stevenson, W. I. Nichol, J. W. Penno, and J. Sutherland. Subdivision of Lands

The council was asked by the Department of Lands and Survey not to issue building permits for lands subdivided into areas smaller than the required minimum area.—The county clerk (Mr S. Riaeh) reported that the council’s by-laws allowed a minimum of 20 roods as against the department’s claim of 24 roods.—The engineer, Mr J. D. King, said that legislation requiring a minimum of 24 roods was not yet passed and that the department was acting precipitately—The letter was received. Regional Planning Connell The Otago Regional Planning Council wrote requesting the nomination of a member to represent the counties which are members of the Regional Planning Council on the executive of that council.— Letters were also received from three other counties stating that any member selected by the Taieri County Council would be acceptable to them.—Cr Sutherland was appointed as the Taieri County Council’s representative. The Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council Informed the council that two separate catchment districts were warranted in Otago. A meeting of those local bodies which attended the first meeting at Roxburgh would be held at a suitable date to complete the arrangements.—Received.
