Call Through Illegal Radio CONTINUOUS WAR DEMANDED Intensification of Terrorism (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 15. An Irgun Zvai Leumi radio call for revolt urged the Jews to stop paying taxes and turn the money over to the .Irgun Zvai Leumi war fund, which was being used " against our enemies.” t The radio added, “ We should not be satisfied with occasional operations. We should begin a continuous war and develop a general revolt.” Irgun Zvai Leumi wanted a single Jewish Army of Liberation, formed from Haganah, the Stern Gang and Irgun Zvai Leumi. It urged complete severance df relations with the “ Occupation Government.” A message from Jerusalem says that, continuing their war of nerves, terrorists gave more telephone warnings of bomb danger to the General Post Office building, Barclay’s bank, and the Jerusalem municipal building. Police searched the buildings and gave the “ all clear ” after an hour. The High Commissioner for Palestine, Sir Alan Cunningham, issued an order to-day granting 100 immigration certificates for Arabs and 1500 for Jews for the month ending on September 14. He announced an agreement between Britain and the . U.N.R.R.A. for repatriation of Polish refugees from Palestine and TJ.N.R.R.A. representatives have begun the registration of Polish refugees for early return to Poland.

EMBARKATION BASES MANY SITUATED IN ITALY DIFFICULT COAST TO PATROL LONDON, Aug. 14. British security police are closely watching shipping on the Italian coast as part of a widespread operation to stop illegal Jewish immigration to Palestine at the source, says the Daily Genoa correspondent Ten vessels on the Ligurian coast alone are already suspected of having been chartered for clandestine voyages to Palestine. Any attempt to embark illegal immigrants will be thwarted. Recent movements of refugees suggest that future attempts at embarkation will be transferred to Southern Italy, where there are gteat stretches of unwatched coastline. A British official said: “Thesepeople are fanatics, and they will stop at nothing to get into Palestine.” The financial strength of the organisation operating illegal immigration is indicated by a report that 2200 persons carried in one ship slipped out of a lonely part of the coast near Savona. A Briti#h officer -recently foiled an attempt to purchase a vessel obviously intended for the voyage tc He suspected that the buyer was unlikely to possess as much as £50,000, which was the price of the ship. The buyer when questioned said the money was lent by an “American in Milan.” , The financier’s identity was not discovered,'' 7 but thedeal' fell through. Italian shipyards and shipping agencies are largely under Jewish owner ship. Most of the migrants come from Central Europe and gather chiefly at Milan and Turin. There is a transit camp at Alessandria, where they split into small groups. One group base is maintained in a large villa in Genoa which always has a population of from 300 to 350, which apparently changes weekly. A Jewish “sports camp” on the coast is another establishment which is under suspicion. There is a strong guard of young Jews, and no outsider is allowed to enter.

POPE CONDEMNS VIOLENCE ANSWER.TO ARAB DELEGATION VATICAN CITY, Aug. 14. , According to the Osservatore Romano. the Pope told an Arab delegation: “We condemn all recourse -to violence wherever it comes from, even as we condemned repeatedly past persecutions which fanatic anti-Semitism unleashed against the Jewish people.” The Pope hoped to see through cooperation the creation of order in Palestine, which would guarantee each or the parties at present in conflict security of life. The Atab spokesman said the delegation told the Pope that the Jews were importing “ fighting men ” into Palestine.

RIOTING IN HAIFA ANOTHER SHIP ARRIVES INTERCEPTED BY NAVY r LONDON, Aug. 14. Haifa was heavily guarded after a report was circulated among the Jews that 615 illegal immigrants aboard the Katriel JaiTe, .which arrived yesterday, would be shipped to Cyprus to-night. Correspondents report that a hawser could be seen between the immigrant ship and the British cruiser Mauritius- Both were turned seaward, but were not seen to move. The immigrants were seen lining the rails of the ship and gazing shoreward. Immigrants who arrived in Palestine before August 11 were moved to the Athlit transit camp to-day. when 350 Jews who were taken into the August-September immigration quota were released. A number of Jews were injured to-day when the police made a baton charge to prevent a large crowd from storming the Haifa port area. The incident followed the funerals of three Jews who died after a clash with the police yesterday. Two of those injured in the baton charge were arrested.

. It is officially anounced in London that Mr Attlee has received President Truman’s observations on the British and American experts’ Palestine plan. An early Cabinet meeting is expected to consider the reactions of President Truman and the United States Administration.

FUNDS FOR IMMIGRANTS APPEALS IN UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON, (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) Aug. 14. The State Department has received a complaint from Britain that full-page advertisements are appearing in newspapers above the name “League for Free Palestine,” soliciting contributions to aid Palestine immigration, which, it said, would be free of United States income tax. The State Department is considering the British contention that, since the only immigration to Palestine at present is illegal, these contributions might not * properly be classified as tax-free charitable contributions.
