OBITUARY
The death occurred on Tuesday of Mrs Ann Mathews, who would have celebrated her 91st birthday on August 26. She arrived at Port Chalmers with her parents, Mr and Mrs James Geddes, by the •• Sevilla ” in 1859, was educated at Sawyers' Bay at the private school conducted by Mr G. S. Murray and later at the Port Chalmers Public school. She married Mr John Mathews and resided at Roseneath for over 60 years. In spite of severe physical handicaps Mrs Mathews, at the age of 82, continued to rise at 4 a.m to do her washing. She is survived by three daughters: Miss F. Mathews (Dunedin), Mrs E. Lascelles (Dannevirke) and Mrs C Humphrys (Sydney). ' Mrs Mary Margaret Nimmo, whose death occurred on Monday, was a well known resident of -Port Chalmers. She was particularly prominent in the affairs of the Orange Lodge, and was a hospital visitor for this lodge and for the Port Chalmers Presbyterian Church, in the affairs of which she played a conspicuous part. She was a member of the ■ Port Chalmers Patriotic Committee, taking charge of knitting activities and also serving as a member of the parcels committee
