Mrs W. Stevenson left on Wednesday morning on a visit to Auckland. Mr and Mrs J. Fitzgerald, of Bowler avenue, are on ■ holiday in Queenstown. Nurse H. Leeden, of Timaru, has returned north after a short visit to Dunedin
Mrs E. H. Runnerstrum, of Lees street, and Mrs J. R. Dickison, of Anderson's Bay. are on holiday in Alexandra, Mrs H. M. McDougall, of Maheno street, entertained friends at her home on Wednesday evening last in honour of her daughter, Pat, who was celebrating her coming of age. Mrs J. M. Charles, provincial president of the W.D.F.U., is visiting branches of the organisation in South Otago, and next week will be visiting branches in Central Otago Members of the Otago Ski Club, appropriately dressed in ski-ing outfit, met at the Brown House last Wednesday night to celebrate the fourteenth anniversary of the club's inception. The iced birthday cake, which was surmounted by a small figure dressed in the club's colours of navy blue and orange, was presented by Mrs James H. Gilkison. Mrs Beal, the widow of the late Mr L O. Beal, who was well known in Otago as an engineer* and, surveyor many years ago, is looking forward to celebrating her ninetieth birthday on August 20. She is at pres nt with her sister in Auckland, Mrs H. W. Wilson, whose husband was at one time deputy town clerk at Dunedin, and later town clerk at Auckland She has been permanently residing for some years with Mr and Mrs R. C. Klnvig at Henderson.
Miss E. L. Wilkin, director of Otago Red Cross V.A.D.’s, who has been spending the winter months at Mt. Nicholas, Queenstown, will return to Dunedin to-morrow. Sister Dorothy Robertson, matron of the Presbyterian Hospital at Kong Chuen, South China, has received advice that her request to return to China at the end oi September has been favourably considered by the Missions Committee. Sister Robertson, who has been staying with her sister, Mrs J. W. Holmes, of St. Claii, has during the last few months been taking lectures at the University, and spending a considerable time at the’ Dunedin Hospital in order to bring herself up-to-date with medical discoveries and educational trends, with which she lost touch while interned by the Japanese for three years and a-half. Sister Robertson intends returning to her home at Oamaru at the close of the term at the University.
