AUSTRALIAN EXPORTS

LARGE INCREASE IN VALUE MELBOURNE. Aug. 9. Australian exports for the 1945-46 financial year reached the record figure of £216,300,000, exceeding the previous year’s’ figure by £61,000,000. The Minister for Commerce, Mr W. J. Scully, who announced the figures, compared last year’s exports with the figures for the last pre-war year, £140,000,000. The recent total included merchandise exports (£161,000,000), Government exports, mostly service (£28,400,000) and gold shipment (£26,300,000). Notable exports,, with the figures for 1938-39 in parentheses in each case, were: Clothing' £3.266,000 (£134,000), textiles, £3,069,000 (£278,000); vegetables and foods, £37,401,000 (£25,600,000); oils, fats and wax, £2.432.000 (£713,000).
