WOOL DISPOSAL PROFITS RESEARCH AND PUBLICITY (Rec. 8 p.m.) CANBERRA, Aug. 9. Opposition members strongly attacked the Government proposal to use £7,000,000 profit from the war-time wool disposals scheme for wool research, publicity and a stabilisation fund. During the debate on the Wool Industry Fund Bill, Mr Anthony (Country Party) said that the money belonged to the woolgrowers and not the Federal Government, which was being generous with somebody else’s money. An amendment that the money be invested in Australian Consolidated Stock was lost by 36 votes to 20. The Minister for Post-war Recdnstruction, Mr J. C. Dedman, said that the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research needed £453,000 this year for wool and textile research.
