} Mr R. Walls, M.P., will return to Wellington on Tuesday. Mr E. Hutt, director of parks and reserves at Lower Hutt, has been appointed director of parks arid reserves for the Wellington City Council in succession to Mr J. G. Mackenzie, who will retire at the beginning of next year. Sister G. M. Mitchell, of Mosgiel, and Mr C. Cassels, of Riverton, are returning from duty in the United Kingdom by the Maunganui, which is expected to arrive in New Zealand next Tuesday. Members of the Land Sales Court, Mr Justice Archer, and Messrs W. Stewart and E. Scott, will arrive in Dunedin from the north to-day. Mr L. J. Coughlan, of the Physical Welfare Branch of the Department of Internal Affairs at Dunedin, has received notice of his transfer to Christchurch. Mr Coughlan is a former New Zealand amateur wrestling champion, and has been active in surfing, swimming, indoor basketball, and Rugby football in Dunedin. Mr R. Watkins, manager of the Railway Road Service in Dunedin, who has been appointed manager of the Road Service in Wellington, was entertained at a farewell function on Thursday night. The function was attended by representatives of the various branches of the railway service in Dunedin and a presentation was made to Mr and Mrs Watkins. During the evening items were given by Misses Baker, Thorn, Sexton, and Le Gal, and Messrs Russell, Wilson-Brown, Watkins, and Strachan.

Three new appointments in the Department of Agriculture are announced. Mr H. A. Foy, Assistant Director of the Dairy Division since 1944, becomes Director of the division. Mr H. J. Petch, formerly Superintendent of Butter Instruction for New Zealand, has been appointed Assistant Direc-, tor of the division, and Mr H. G. Philpott takes the new position of Supervisor of Government Herd Recording. These three changes follow the retirement of Mr G. M. Valentine as head of the. division.

Passengers who left by air for the north yesterday were: Mr W. J. Murfitt, Mr S. Falconer, Mr J. Trengrove, and Mr C. N. Draper for Christchurch, Mr A. Gordon, Mr A. N. Turner, Miss D. Pratley, Mr L. A. Holden, Mr C. G. Austin, Mr J. Mitchell, Mr Green, and Miss M. ’ Storey for Wellington, Mr D. B. Cameron, Mr R. F. Henderson, and Mrs J. Russell for Auckland. Those who arrived from the north were: Mr W. L. Cameron, Mr W. Crawford Young, and Mr E. C. Smith from Auckland, Mr P. F. Barker and Miss M. Munt from Palmerston North, Miss E. Robb, Mr C. R. Ibbotson, Miss McMullan, Mrs A. M. Haye, Mr Fisher, Mrs Fisher, Mr H. M. Route, and Mrs H. Gaudin from Wellington, Mrs K. Harper and 'Mrs W. Healey from Christchurch. Passengers for the south 'were: Mr J. K. Garrett, Mrs R. Keast, Mr H. A. Burgess, Mrs J. Clarkson, Mr L. Auston, Mr W. Lang, Mr G. Ireland, the Rev. J. Fenton, Mr H. N. Rout, Mr R. Fisher, Mrs R.
