“FIREFLY”
OPERATIC SOCIETY There is something about a musical comedy which never fails to capture the public fancy. The blending of comedy with drama and melody with movement, the singing of mixed choruses and the sparkling work of the ballets which are always associated with this type of entertainment make a strong appeal to every class of audience without exception. The forthcoming production of the Dunedin Operatic Society is no exception to the general rule, as “ Firefly ” is teeming with spectacle, and has everything that a good musical comedy should have. Stan Lawson, who is regarded as New Zealand’s leading actor-producer, is responsible for the production side, and :s associated again with his, partner of so many successes, Rosetta Powell, of Syu fney, whose outstanding ability as a ballet mistress is well-known. Miss Powell invariably introduces something new and exciting into her scheme of things and some spectacular ballet work will be a feature of the production. Mr James Clark, the society’s popular musical director, is in charge of the musical side. The whole production will be lavishly staged with impressive imported costuming and scenery, and promises to be one of the society’s best presentations.
