BRIGHT FOOTBALL

VARSITY B BEATS UNION Playing one of their best games this season, University B beat Union convincingly at the North Ground by 27 points to 14. Apart from a period of 20 minutes in the middle of the second spell the Union team never looked like winning, and for the greater part of the match the Light Blue forwards and backs had the measure of their opponents. The University backs were given plenty of the ball and opened up the game. On occasions they cut the defence to pieces. N. Frew, behind the scrum, sent the ball out cleanly, and T. Cannon, at first fiveeighths, who played a fine game, made many excellent openings. I. Isdale, the centre three-quarter, was the best back on the field. He ran strongly, cut out the opposition time and again, and scored one try from his own twenty-five. D. Dickson and J. Cunningham, on the wings, showed plenty of pace and made good use of the opportunities that came their way. R. Cantwell, R. D- Fraser, T. Logan, and A. Seelye were the best of the forwards. J. Richards, behind the Union scrum, played an excellent game, but the other backs seldom had a chance to show their paces, being well smothered by the opposing vanguard. Tries were scored for University B by Isdale (2), Dickson (2), Cannon, and Cunningham. A. Dobson converted two tries and kicked a penalty goal and A. Seelye converted one try. L. Werner scored for Union and T. Freeman, the full-back, kicked three good penalties and converted the try. The referee was Mr L. Stewart.
