WOMAN SHOT DEAD
FATHER ARRESTED A CHARGE OF MURDER (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 28. Soon after 9 a.m. to-day, Beryl Denise Stone, a single wbman, aged 30. was shot at the residence of her brother-in-law, John Edward Doran, at Dale street. Kaiapoi. Her father. Geoffrey James Stone, a dairy farmer, agd 54, of Woodend, was later arrested and charged with murder. According to the police, Beryl Stone had been keeping house for her brother-in-law. This morning Stone went to Doran’s house and asked his daughter to return home. It is alleged that after some discussion Stone drew an automatic pistol from his overcoat and shot his daughter through the head. The police were notified and a party under Superintendent H. Scott, immediately went to Kaiapoi. After an investigation they arrested Stone. An inquest was opened before Mr Raymond Ferner. S.M., sitting as coroner, and was adjourned after evidence of identification had been given.
