DOCTORS’ PROBLEM

ACCOMMODATION SHORTAGE SERVING GROWING CENTRES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 26. Accommodation difficulties facing doctors who wish to practise in developing areas are emphasised by resolutions passed at a meeting of the Council of the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association, and at a meeting of medical practitioners in the Hutt Valley which have been forwarded to the Minister of Health, Mr A. H. Nordmeyer. The resolution passed at the Hutt Valley meeting was: “That this meeting of medical practitioners of Hutt Valley, being concerned about the medical care of the residents of Waddington and Taita, requests the Government to make available to medical practitioners in those areas suitable land or residences from which they can conduct their practices.” ' A similar resolution regarding accommodation was oassed by the council, which, also adopted the following motion: “That while the association is not opposed to voluntary group practice, it considers that the best method of providing medical services for the Hutt Valley would be by general practitioners conducting practice from their own residences, properly distributed through the area, rather than by practising from a health centre." The council also adopted a further resolution regarding accommodation asking the Government to facilitate arrangements for doctors to rent or purchase residences in any area in New Zealand which requires medical -services.
