CRICKET TOUR
AUSTRALIAN TEAM’S VISIT A SUBSTANTIAL PROFIT (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 26. A profit of approximately £4300 on the tour of the Australian cricket team last season was reported at the halfyearly meeting to-night of the New Zealand Cricket Council. The gross takings on the tour were £12,850. The chairman of the Management Committee, Mr D. E. Wanklyn, who presided, said it had been agreed that the major associations should provide more cricket for junior players to assist in selecting a team for England in 1949. Definite provincial tours had been suggested for junior teams and extra matches might be provided for schoolboys. Tentative arrangements had been made for the visit of the English team after the Australian tour, but there were difficulties. A visit of a Fijian side was suggested for 1947-48, and there was a possibility of a visit later from an Indian team.
