TECHNICAL EDUCATION NEW ORGANISATION FORMED * (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, July 26. “ From now on youtns in country districts will have increasing opportunities to qualify in a variety of occupations,” said the Minister of Education, Mr H. G. R. Mason, to-day. “ With the aid of correspondence courses, they can improve their farming technique or obtain examination qualifications in* trades taught by technical colleges in the main centres. Tne same advantages will be open to those whose physical disabilities prevent them from attending classes.” The Minister explained that on July 1, the Education Department had extended the scope of its correspondence courses to include many technical subjects. A new organisation called the Technical Correspondence School has been established to serve the growing demand for technical education throughout the Dominion. •* The courses offered cover such subjects as mechanical, electrical and radio engineering, carpentry, book-keeping and agriculture. They will, as far as possible, prepare correspondence pupils for the same qualifying examinations as those attending technical schools,” the Minister the war, the Wellington Technical College provided certain correspondence courses for apprentices, he added and during the war the Army Education Weifare Service developed a wide range of vocational studies. The Education Department was now taking over the correspondence work of these two institutions ana would develop it further. The 1700 servicemen and ex-servicemen at present enrolled would continue their studies under the administration of the Technical Correspondence School. Courses were also available for adults who were unable to attend classes.
