“MERELY ACADEMIC”

DISPOSAL OF HOGAN’S APPEAL ECHO OF MAN-POWER DIRECTION (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 9. “Owing to the lifting of the manpower restrictions, the appeal has become one of merely academic interest,” said counsel in the Supreme Court today in seeking the withdrawal of the appeal of John Hogan, a publisher naming Charles Frederick Shapcott, civil servant, as the respondent,. The appeal, which was against a conviction for failure to obey a man-power direction when Hogan was fined £25, was dismissen by the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, with costs (£2 2s) agamst the appellant. The balance of the amount paid in as security for the appeal, after the deduction of the £2 2s. was ordered to be repaid to the appellant. Counsel remarked, with a smile, that his client did not seek to uplift the £25 fine.
