ANZAC DAY

METHOD OF OBSERVANCE ISSUE TO BE DISCUSSED A decision to call a meeting of representatives of interested organisations next week to discuss the future obserance of Anzac Day was reached at the fortnightly meeting last night of the Dunedin Returned Services’ Association.

The question of the need for an alteration in the form of observance had been raised at the annual meeting of members of the association some time ago, but action had been deferred until the return of the delegates from the annual Dominion conference. It was decided last evening to call a meeting on Tuesday next, to be attended by two representatives each of the Dunedin Returned Services’ Association, the Australian Imperial Forces Club, the 2nd N.Z.E.F. Association, the South African War Veterans' Association and the War Amputees' Association.

The purpose of the meeting will be "to inquire into the desirability of continuing the present form of observance of Anzac Day or the necessity for amendment to the Anzac Day Observance Act to permit of the day being observed in a manner more in keeping with recent Empire events,” and also to make a repotr to a special general meeting of the Returned Services' Association to be called at some future date, in accordance with the decision reached by the annual meeting. The president, Mr S. P. Cameron, and Mr M. S. Myers were appointed as the delegates from the executive to the meeting.
