PUBLIC NOTICES. VEHICLE HEADLIGHTS. As from SATURDAY: JULY 13. REGULAR CHECKS will be made by the Transport Department on (a) The adjustment of headlamps. (b) The provision of dipping device. (c) The practice of dipping. In view of the frequency of motor accidents at night and the numerous complaints received concerning dazzling Lights, Traffic Inspectors of the Transport Department have been instructed to issue traffic offence notices, with a view to prosecution of offending drivers, in all cases of infringement of Regulation 7 of the Traffic Regulations, 1936, as amended in 1939 by Amendment No. 1 of these Regulations. Briefly the requirements are:— (1) Under no conditions of loading or operation may the headlights tilt upwards above the horizontal (when the vehicle is on a horizontal surface) not towards the off side (i.e., right hand side of the vehicle). (2) Lights must be capable of being dipped in terms of the Regulations. (3) The driver must dip his lights when the full beam would be likely to dazzle another driver or a rider of any vehicle (including a cyclist). G. L.
