MR R. G. CASEY RE-ENTERS (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) CANBERRA, July 8. Mr R. G. Casey, formerly Governor of Bengal, will contest the Lilley seat, Queensland, at the next elections as a Liberal candidate.
Mr Casey, who first entered politics as member of the Australian House of Representatives for Corio in 1931,
had previously been liaison officer in London between the British and Commonwealth Governments for seven years. In 1940 he was appointed Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the United States, two years later he was appointed United Kingdom Minister of State in the Middle East and a member of the War Cabinet, and in January, 1944, he was appointed Governor of Bengal.
