CLEARING THE SLIPS
THE NORTHLAND FLOOD (P.A.) WHANGAREI, July 8. As the result of work all day on Sunday the slips which interrupted the rail connection north and south of Whangarei were removed, and the services were resumed to-day with the exception of the Dargaville line, on which passengers joined buses at Maungaturoto.
The Hikurangi Swamp area is still flooded, the area under water being the largest experienced in 20 years. Numerous slips on the roads in different parts of Northland are being cleared, but traffic is still held up at some points.
